El pasado sábado ha fallecido Charlton Heston, el actor que nos diera interpretaciones legendarias en varias películas de entre las cuales permanecen con más fidelidad en mi retina, The Ten Commandments, The Planet of The Apes (el original, no el chasco de Burton), la multipremiada Ben Hur y la apasionante historia de ciencia ficción Soylent Green.
Heston fue un un hombre controvertido, él apoyó en su momento al movimiento por los derechos civiles de Martin Luther King, pero más tarde en su vida se unió al ala más conservadora y radical del partido republicano. También llego a encabezar la ANR, Asociación Nacional del Rifle, y de ahí viene uno de sus dichos más famosos, en el que expresó que el gobierno -a través de regulaciones de armas- le quitarían las suyas "de sus muertas y heladas manos".
Yo voy a extrañar al actor y no al políitico. ¡Paz en la tumba de Mr Heston!
Last Saturday has passed away Charlton Heston, the actor who gave us legendary interpretations in several films including those who are staying with more fidelity in my mind, The Ten Commandments, The Planet of The Apes (the original, not the flop of Burton) the multi awarded Ben Hur and he fascinating story of science fiction Soylent Green.
Heston was a controversial man, at one time he supported the civil rights movement of Martin Luther King, but later in life he joined the more conservative and radical wing of the Republican Party. It came to head the NRA, National Rifle Association, and from there comes one of its most famous sayings, in which he stated that the government -through weapon regulations- would remove theirs "from my dead, cold hands".
I am going to miss the actor and not the politician. Peace in the tomb of Mr. Heston!
