Las películas más esperadas del 2008 (The Most Expected Films of 2008)

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
¡Wow!
Nivel de expectativa: 10/10

Sex and the City: The Movie

The Dark Knight

Quantum of Solace
CRAIG IS NOT BOND.
Nivel de expectativa: 0/10

Star Trek

Iron Man

The Incredible Hulk

Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D

The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

Madagascar: The Crate Escape

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

The Day the Earth Stood Still

A friend sent me via e-mail a list of the most awaited films of this year, I don't know the source of this selection, because for me there are several omissions. However, these are part of the films that many are anticipating in this 2008, and that they're almost certain to be arriving in Bolivia, I attached to them my comments and my personal level of expectation on each one.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
A new adaptation of one of the novels by C. S. Lewis. If maintains the quality of the first, I promise without fail go to see it. The Pevensie kids return to the old ways.
Expectation level: 7/10

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
A new chapter in the saga of the man wuth the hat and whip, with the bonus of having it back to Karen Allen and Cate Blanchett as the villain. Wow!
Expectation level: 10/10

Sex and the City: The Movie
Adaptation of the cult series of the same name. I confess that never saw the series, because it was aired by a cable channel that suffered from frequent interference, and also it was aired at a time in which I saw other series that at the time I liked most. However, I will see this adaptation, and if I like it, I pledge to buy all the DVDs of the series.
Expectation level: 6/10

The Dark Knight

The expected sequel of the brilliant version of Batman by Christopher Nolan. This film will focus on the confrontation between Batman and his nemesis The Joker, played by the recently deceased Heath Ledger.
Expectation level: 10/10

Mamma Mia!
The film adaptation of a musical by Catherine Johnson, based on the songs of ABBA. A girl decides to get to know his father before marrying. I admit it: I like ABBA!
Expectation level: 6/10

X-Files 2
A new film based on X-Files, It's said that it will show us a story that has nothing to do with aliens, and therefore sets aside the mould of the previous film and important arguments earlier in the series.
Expectation level: 5/10

Quantum of Solace

The second film in which Daniel Craig embodies Bond. This is the only movie that I do not want to know anything, I'm not going to the cinema to see it. For me the series of Bond has died with dignity in Die Another Day. Perhaps someday I'll will see this, when it is passing through the cable. CRAIG IS NOT BOND.
Expectation level: 0/10

Star Trek
A new chapter of the Star Trek saga, which was actually a kind of reboot. J. J. Abrams with his magic touch will start the adventures of the famous first crew of the Enterprise.
Expectation level: 8/10

Iron Man

Adapting to film, the adventures of one of the flagships of the Marvel superheroes. Robert Downey Jr., in the role of millionaire Tony Stark, who through his alter ego Iron Man, fight against supervillains.
Expectation level: 7/10

Speed Racer
Adaptation of a series of Japanese animation of the 60's. It will be interesting to see Meteor in flesh and blood running his fabulous car Mach 5.
Expectation level: 6/10

The Incredible Hulk
Another reboot that takes distance from Ang Lee's film, since most radical fans of Hulk, have left disgudted with the first film.
Expectation level: 6/10

Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D
Universal will give us this new adaptation of the works of Jules Verne. Starring Brendan Fraser.
Expectation level: 6/10

The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Brendan Fraser at the helm of a new film of the saga of Universal. Jet Li versus Fraser, Wow! I admit that this will be as the earlier ones a complete guilty pleasure.
Expectation level: 8/10

Madagascar: The Crate Escape
New adventures of Alex, Mary, Gloria and Melman. The first film was not convincing for me at all, it is more I even didn't saw at the cinema. We will see if this one has what it takes to be an improvement over the previous one. The penguins were the saving grace of the first part.
Expectation level: 4/10

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
The penultimate delivery of the saga of Harry Potter, There no need to say that I will be in the queue to see this saga, which fortunately was growing well.
Expectation level: 9/10

The Day the Earth Stood Still
A remake of the famous film by Robert Wise, which is a classic of science fiction. I do not like remakes, it seems to me that there is no need to make them, if something is great, why bother to recreate it, and in most cases, only worsens what has been done before.
Expectation level: 4/10

Seis haikus (Six Haikus)

¡Bolivia cambia!
Lo que no nos dijeron
es que empeora

Following, I offer six haikus inspired by the recent events caused by the heavy rains in Bolivia. (Sorry, but the translation in English, doesn’t respect the 5-7-5 metric of these original haikus in Spanish)

Then came the rain
and all it took
only I am

The rain came
and while all talk
the cows are dying

The flood arrived
and took three children.
Mother childless!

The feet wet
shivering cold
somebody help us!

No more roads
they’re already flooded,
as every year

Bolivia changes!
what we didn’t said
is that worsens

Roy Scheider 1932 - 2008

Roy Scheider, the actor who gave us two jewels (for me) with his unforgettable Martin Brody, in the already legendary Jaws from Steven Spielberg, and Joe Gideon, the choreographer that while nears its inevitable end, still shows the celebration of his life and its conclusion in the acclaimed All That Jazz, has just died, leaving the world of cinema again plunged into grief, just as we end to mourn Ledger.

I remember him with great affection and admiration because of these two films, they left me quite impressed at the time, but especially since Roy played them to the fullest. Other productions that was memorable for me was Blue Thunder in which faced a villain personified by Malcolm McDowell, in a duel of helicopters that my mind won’t ever forget.

He also participated in many other movies, I remember well in Marathon Man, In which film I shuddered by the infamous scene of Olivier asking to Hoffman "Is it safe?", But Roy never again achieve the prominence and glory of the two mentioned at the beginning of this post.

At least he has left two of the most memorable lines I’ve ever heard in the movies: "You're gonna need a bigger boat" and "It's showtime!"

Peace in the tomb of Roy.

Joshua (2002)

On Saturday, February 9, I had the fortune of seeing at the cable "Joshua", a film that tells the story of a stranger in a small town in the United States., a town with rockwellian features.

The stranger named Joshua (Tony Goldwyn), appears in the village, where he accommodates himself in a barn, to work as a wood carver, apart from being handy in other crafts. Gradually begins to interact with different people in the community, and in doing so slowly changing their lives. Two Catholic priests entrusted him a bust of the apostle Peter, but Joshua, also undertakes too, the reconstruction of the Baptist church in the village. Disgusted the father Tardone (F. Murray Abraham) in an Pharisee-like attitude, start to see as the enemy to the newcomer and will do everything in its power to expose him.

In spite of his simplicity, the extraordinary events surrounding the main character, will soon too notorious, but even so the character still manages to not make anyone feel they are in the presence of someone very special.

Joshua is a man who will give their support to those who need it, and so for example, he is beginning to change the way of thinking and acting of people, helps many people to confront their fears, to realize that in fact, his/her life is complete instead of destroyed, and so on.

All of this is accomplished in a way kind and gracious, unlike Father Tardone who prefers instilling the fear of God in the hearts of his parishioners. The end, no less than in the Vatican, has an unexpected twist, which I will leave you to look for yourselves when you have the opportunity to see it.

After "The Passion of The Christ”, one of the best movies about what actually means the message of Christ. A film that is surprising, because one would expect that it turns out preachy and arrogant, but instead inspires and it’s humble.

El Soundtrack de tu vida - The Soundtrack Of Your Life

5. Cada pregunta, nueva canción

6. No mientas

My friend Lafa received a chain e-mail, but she doesn‘t forwarded it via e-mail, instead she played it in her blog, with results among weird and funny.
As the matter has not reached me via e-mail, well I have decided to follow via blog, too. We will see if more people are encouraged to continue it in this way.

Needless to say, as the rules demands I‘m gonna stick to the results. But I have to say that I‘ve made a clean-up and rebuild two library songs (in Spanish and English), One doesn‘t realize how many “trash” in mp3 has in his computer until such a thing happens, whatever, the only thing I did was to leave in place only the songs that I like, or as they say rock my world, so beauties as “Aserejé” or “La Macarena” are decidedly outside.

Instructions:
Let's pretend that our life is a movie.
So it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp Media Player, iPod, etc.)
2. Put it at random or shuffle
3. Press play
4. For each question, writes down the song is playing
5. Each question, new song
6. Don‘t lie

Mi gato Tomás (Thomas, my cat)

He came to my life a February 1992 (perhaps it’s why I get to tell his story). My cousin and my aunt Paula Carmela, who had given the little cat offered to me, but I refused, not for lack of desire, but because I knew that if I took it home, my mother was going to be over me at all times (and sometimes it tends to be pretty obsessive when she gets a matter between eyebrow and eyebrow). To my surprise, it was she who decided that it would be a good idea to have a pet at home, and she initially was taking care of a small infection in his eyes.

When the time comes to think of a name for the cat, I began to think of several candidates. Silvestre seemed to fit because of his colours (white and black), but it seemed very long to say, and cats like short names, Garfield and Felix were also discarded and I decided that Thomas would be a double tribute to several other cats in the family called by this or similar names and the Tom Cat (the opposite of Jerry the mouse).

My feline companion since then, it has grown and has gone through several adventures too, and some almost tragedies. In the first house where I lived (the cat, not me), which was on the third story of a building, the poor trying to grab a dove was diving directly to the street before my eyes, I don’t remember how, but in a two by three came down to the street and the poor was pretty bruised, and without reaction, so my mother carried him to a veterinarian, who told us that nothing serious had happened.

Since then I got an obsession with not letting him go to the yard without supervision, and keeping windows closed at least while we were not in the house, or abandoned it for a while. In spite of all these precautions, and when he was a little older, the kitten again found a window open, and again threw a small direct flight to the street. All this happened as a result of my mother leaving opened the window, and I hadn’t noticed as I entered to the bathroom to take a shower, when I come out, my brother brought him back all bruised again, but this time he has an ugly open wound beneath the lower jaw.

As might be expected, further visit to the vet, and then the pet was prescribed antibiotics and was healed, this time our care become almost paranoid, to not let the cat would jump again, tempted by some pigeons, which came to our yard, windows and roof. Needless to say, I fall into the category of people who identify themselves with cats, and Thomas and I are so used to each other, he understands phrases (repeated hundreds of times), I say, and I interpret their meows and identified them according to their needs and what he tries to tell me.

With this February he reaches 16 years of company, and he’s turning old, but Thomas is still sound. It has its habits and peculiarities, if I ever get angry with him or he hadn’t see me for more than 24 hours, he often ignores me and escapes from me, until I talk to him with a lot of patience and persuade him to let me caress him again.

I always talk to him commissioning that he reserves a place for me in kittens’ heaven, because jokingly I tell him that in dogs’ heaven, I have no entrance.
