Persépolis (Persepolis)

Marjane Satrapi y Vincent Paronnaud dirigieron esta pequeña joyita animada titulada Persépolis, la misma que al igual que las dos novelas gráficas en las que se han basado cuentan la historia de Marjane Satrapi, desde su infancia en la Irán del Sha, hasta su entrada en la madurez, ya bajo el despiadado régimen del Irán de hoy.

Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud directed this little animated gem entitled Persepolis, the same as like the two graphic novels in which they have relied tell the story of Marjane Satrapi, from his childhood in the Iran of the Shah, pending its entry into the maturity, already under the ruthless regime of today Iran.

La película ha elegido el blanco y negro, con escasos cameos en color, para contarnos la historia de una angelical, pero ya bastante independiente niña, que crece junto a su familia de clase media, y que secretamente apoya los esfuerzos revolucionarios para derrocar al Sha. La niña pronto se verá influenciada por su familia, en especial por un tío, para que deje de apoyar al Sha y se comprometa con los ideales marxista-leninistas.

The film has chosen white and black, with little cameos in color, to tell us the story of an angelic, but already fairly independent girl who grows alongside his middle-class family, and that secretly supports revolutionary efforts to topple the Sha. The girl soon will be influenced by his family, especially by an uncle, to stop supporting the Shah and to be committed to the ideals of Marxism-Leninism.

Luego de que la revolución se instaura, viene un breve período de anarquía, el mismo que desembocará, como todos ya sabemos, en el actual régimen teocrático islámico que muy pronto se puso a retroceder los relojes en un país, que se había jactado de a pesar de seguir manteniendo el islamismo, era a su vez el más occidentalizado y moderno, a diferencia de sus más radicales vecinos.

After the revolution, comes a short period of anarchy, which culminate, as everyone already knows, in the current theocratic Islamic regime that was soon backing the clocks in a country that had boasted of despite continuing being islamic, was itself the most Westernized and modern, unlike its more radical neighbors.

La adolescente Marjane, comienza a abrazar todos los elementos clásicos de la cultura pop, que son, a pesar de muchos, bastante comunes a los adolescentes de todo el mundo, comienza a adquirir música de contrabando, se rebela todo lo que puede en la forma de vestir, aunque al igual que las demás mujeres debe sufrir el omnipresente velo en la cabeza.

Su actitud rebelde, llega a incluso a crearle problemas en la escuela, donde religiosas islámicas, cuentan las mentiras con las que quieren azucarar el actual régimen, es por ese motivo que sus padres deciden enviarla a Viena. Lugar en el que tratará de amoldarse primero, pero luego de varias dificultades, y algunas primeras decepciones amorosas, acabará deambulando por las calles de Viena, sola y enferma.

Her rebellious attitude, reaches even to create problems at school, where Islamic religious, are telling the lies with which they want to sugar coat the new regime, is for this reason that their parents decide to send her to Vienna. Place in which she seek to adjust first, but after several difficulties, and some initial love deceptions, eventually she will end wandering through the streets of Vienna, alone and sick.

Llega a un punto en su vida en que acaba añorando regresar a su país, lo cual hace sólo para darse cuenta que el estado de las cosas, no ha hecho más que empeorar desde que se fue. Es como yo digo, siempre que se vuelve a algún lugar, se lleva uno muchas decepciones, porque no todo sigue igual, y para bien o para mal las cosas siempre cambian. Es así que vemos a Marjane ahora viviendo una doble vida, al igual que muchos de sus pares, que en la vida pública se someten al omnipresente y opresivo régimen, pero que se las ingenian para tener sus fiestas, alcohol y música que están prohibidas.

She reachs a point in her life in which she is homesick, and after her return she realizes that the state of affairs has not only got worse since she left. It's like I say, always that one person returns to a place, he/she takes a lot of disappointment, because not everything stays the same, and for better or for worse things are forever changing. Thus we see Marjane now living a double life, like many of his peers, who in public life are subjected to the pervasive and oppressive regime, but that manage to take their parties with alcohol and music that are prohibited.

Por supuesto esto tampoco le gusta a Marjane que vuelve a tener problemas, se casa sólo para descubrir que su esposo es un patán, y es su abuela quien la anima, y vence este y otros motivos que la tenían deprimida. Finalmente su familia insiste en que con el actual régimen, tarde o temprano ella acabará en problemas, y la despachan definitivamente esta vez con rumbo a Francia, que es el lugar en el que reside desde entonces.

Of course this also dislikes to Marjane that again faces with problems, she marries only to discover that her husband is a jerk, and her grandmother encourages her, and Marjanne ends with this and other reasons that had her depressed. Finally his family insists that with the current regime, sooner or later she will end up in trouble, and finally send her this time to France, which is the place where she resides since then.

Esta película me ha gustado mucho, tiene corazón y alma, y a pesar de ser animada te sumerge en la historia personal de una niña, que para cuando entra en la madurez ya ha tenido que atravesar toda una odisea, la misma que incluye, revoluciones, la guerra de Irak-Irán, el ser la paria en un lugar extraño, el tener una sarta de decepciones amorosas, el hecho de haber llevado una doble vida, y el hecho de finalmente dejar su país y su familia, sabiendo que nunca más los volverá a ver.

This film I liked a lot, has heart and soul, and despite being animated immerses you in the personal story of a girl, that when it comes into maturity has already travelled through a whole ordeal, which includes, revolutions, the Iran-Iraq war, be the pariah in a strange place, having a string of romantic disappointments, the fact of having led a double life, and the fact that she finally leave his country and his family, knowing that she never will see them again.

Si creen que les he contado todo el argumento, no es así, la película tiene muchísimo más para ofrecer, y les dejaré que lo descubren por ustedes mismos. Persépolis perdió frente a Ratatouille, como la mejor película animada. Pero me atrevo a decir que de las producciones del año pasado, ésta debió figurar como contendiente a mejor película, en mi preferencia personal, lo es.

If you believe that I have told the entire argument, it’s not true, the film has much more to offer, and I leave you to discover for yourselves. Persepolis lost to Ratatouille, as the best animated film. But I daresay that of all the productions of the last year, it should have been a best film contestant, in my personal preference, it is.

El fin de los tiempos (The Happening)

La última película de M. N. Shyamalan, El fin de los tiempos, nos cuenta la historia acerca de un posible escenario en el que la humanidad confronta con una amenaza desconocida, que bien podría significar su aniquilación total.

The latest film from M. N. Shyamalan, The Happening, tells the story about a possible scenario in which humanity faces a threat unknown, which could well mean their total annihilation.

El filme comienza en Nueva York, en el Central Park, lugar en el que la gente comienza a actuar en forma extraña, se queda inmóvil por unos instantes, para posteriormente proceder a eliminarse de la forma más expédita posible. Los métodos incluyen desde clavarse agujas de pelo en el cuello, obreros que saltan al vacío desde sus andamios, a policías que se matan, para que luego otros recojan su arma y procedan con el mismo procedimiento.

The film begins in New York in Central Park, where people begin to act strangely, remains immobile for a few moments, then proceed to suicide themselves as fase as possible. Methods range from hair needles nailed on the neck, workers who jump from their scaffolding, policemen who shoot themselves, then another person appears to collect his gun and proceed with the same procedure.

Las perturbadoras noticias llegan a conocimiento de la pareja conformada por Elliot Moore (Mark Wahlberg), un modesto profesor de secundaria y Alma Moore (Zooey Deschanel), quienes junto a un amigo, Julian (John Leguizamo) quien lleva consigo a su pequeña hija, emprenden un intento de huida hacia Harrisburg , Philadelphia, ya que ponderan que lo que viene siendo sucediendo es una especie de ataque terrorista, cuyo blanco son las ciudades más grandes del noreste americano, pensando que en un pueblo más pequeño tendrán la oportunidad de esquivar los mismos.

The disturbing news come to the attention of the couple of Elliot Moore (Mark Wahlberg), a modest high school teacher and Alma Moore (Zooey Deschanel), who along with a friend, Julian (John Leguizamo) who brings his little daughter, undertake an attempt to flee toward Harrisburg, Philadelphia, already pondering that what has been happening is a kind of terrorist attack, whose targets are the largest cities in the northeastern U.S., thinking that in a smaller town they will have an opportunity to dodge them.

Se embarcan en un viaje en tren, el cual termina abruptamente en medio de la nada, ya que los conductores se rehúsan a seguir con el viaje ya que alegan no tener contacto de ninguna clase con el mundo exterior. La energía eléctrica falla en el pueblo donde están, y nuestros protagonistas huyen en el coche de una pareja que se ofrece a llevarlos, pero Julian decide ir de regreso por su esposa, confiándoles la niña a sus amigos.

They embark on a journey by train, which ends abruptly in the middle of nowhere, as drivers refuse to continue with the trip claiming to have no contact whatsoever with the outside world. The power failure in the village where they are, and our players are fleeing in the car of a couple who offered to take with them, but Julian decides to go back looking for his wife, entrusting the girl to his friends.

Por supuesto desde ese momento ya anticipamos la suerte que correrá Julian, y nuestro protagonistas tratan de escapar de una amenaza, cuyas orígenes todavía no aciertan a comprender, o siquiera a sospechar. Casualmente la pareja que los lleva hacen una parada en uno de sus invernaderos, y es el dueño quien aventura una primera explicación sobre lo que está sucediendo. Las plantas han reaccionado y están produciendo algún químico que causa alteración en los organismos humanos, de modo que estos busquen suicidarse de manera inmediata.

Of course since then we anticipate the fate of Julian, and our players are trying to escape a threat, whose oorigins they doesn’t yet understand, or even suspect. Coincidentally the carrier couple made a stop at one of his greenhouses, and the owner is the first who attempt an explanation about what is happening. The plants have responded and are producing some chemical that causes disruption in human bodies, so that those are seeking to commit suicide immediately.

Más tarde se reúnen con otras personas que también escapan de la amenaza, y es entonces cuando Elliot, deduce que las plantas reaccionan a grandes concentraciones de gente, motivo por el que decide separarse e ir por el ahora amenazante campo, solo con su esposa y la niña. Eventualmente ellos se verán confrontados ante la cercanía de su propia muerte y…

Later meet other people who also escaped the threat, and then when Elliot, inferred that plants react to large concentrations of people, that’s why he decided to secede and go by the now threatening field, alone with his wife and girl. Eventually they will be confronted with the closeness of his own death and…

Me doy cuenta que este es un filme que no gustará a muchas personas, porque no es la típica película en la que uno o dos simpáticos personajes, descifrarán el peligro y se ocuparán de ello a base de golpes, disparos, bombas y explosiones. El villano en esta cinta, -la vegetación-, es omnipresente, y es algo con lo que, -según la tesis del filme-, es peligroso vivir, pero cuya erradicación o eliminación no es plausible. Las actuaciones de los dos estelares, son aceptables. En vista de que estos no son papeles shakesperianos, donde de vez en cuando se largarán frases memorables, los diálogos pueden incluso parecer algo sosos, pero te da más o menos la impresión de cómo respondería la gente a una amenaza cuyo origen, naturaleza y modo de actuar es totalmente desconocido.

I realize that this is a film that not many people won’t like it, because it is not the typical movie in which one or two likeable characters decipher the danger and will deal with it through beatings, shootings, bombings and explosions. The villain in this film –vegetation-, is omnipresent, and is something that, according to the thesis of the film, is dangerous to live, but whose eradication or elimination is not plausible. The two main stars performances, are acceptable. Given that these roles are not Shakespearian, where occasionally memorable phrases are spoken, dialogues can even seem somewhat dull, but it gives you more or less the impression of how people respond to a threat whose origin, nature and mode to act is totally unknown.

No es lo mejor de Shyamalan, quien en esta cinta hace un discreto cameo como uno de los angustiados pasajeros del tren, pero tampoco es lo peor de él, como andan diciendo muchos por ahí. Incluso he sentido un poco del aire de la famosa película de Hitchcock, Los Pájaros. Recomendable sólo para fanáticos de Shyamalan o de gente que pueda soportar una película sin fuegos artificiales. Para acabar otra advertencia, debido a varias escenas perturbadoras, éste no es un filme apto para niños pequeños o impresionables.

It is not the best of Shyamalan, who in this film makes a discreet cameo as one of the distressed train passengers, but neither is the worst of him, like are saying many folks out there. Even I felt a little air of the famous Hitchcock film, The Birds. Recommended only for fans of Shyamalan or people who can carry a movie without fireworks. To conclude another warning, due to several disturbing scenes, this is not a film suitable for young or impresionable children.

El increíble Hulk (The Incredible Hulk)

Edward Norton y Zack Penn se pusieron a escribir el guión de la nueva película de Hulk, y debo decir que han cumplido la misión con honores. La película de Ang Lee, sobre el mismo personaje sin ser mala, tampoco había sido recibida con elogios por los seguidores del personaje de historietas, yo entre ellos. Sin embargo esta nueva versión dirigida por Louis Leterrier, es una adaptación mejor lograda.

Edward Norton and Zack Penn came to write the screenplay for the new Hulk film, and I must say that they have fulfilled the mission with honors. The Ang Lee's film on the same character without being bad, had not been received with acclaim by the followers of the comics character, I among them. But this new version directed by Louis Leterrier, is an adaptation best achieved.


Bruce Banner (Edward Norton), es un fugitivo que que mientras se mantiene oculto y lejos de las acechanzas del general Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (William Hurt), trata de encontrar la cura a su condición, que provoca que en sus momentos de ira se convierta en el Goliat Verde, Hulk. Inevitablemente tendrá que volver a los EE.UU. en busca de la cura, lugar en el que es ayudado por Betty Ross (Liv Tyler), es allí que el padre de Betty, el general Ross, provocará el nacimiento de otro monstruo llamado Abominación (Tim Roth), con el que al final de la película tendrá que saldar cuentas nuestro héroe.

Bruce Banner (Edward Norton), is a fugitive that while remains hidden and away from the pursuit of General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (William Hurt), tries to find the cure to his condition, which causes that in their moments of anger becomes the Green Goliath, Hulk. Inevitably he will needs to return to U.S. in search of a cure, there he is helped by Betty Ross (Liv Tyler), once he reached that place, Betty's father, General Ross, will cause the birth of another monster called Abomination (Tim Roth), with whom at the end of the film our hero will have to settle accounts.


Esta película se las arregla para ser un “reboot”, un recomienzo de la historia del famoso gigante verde, el mismo que huye, para ser permanentemente acosado por las fuerzas de comandos al mando del general Ross. La película rinde tributo a la vieja serie de televisión en varias formas, toma prestado el tema musical de la misma, Lou Ferrigno, quien era el Hulk de la tele, tiene una pequeña aparición como un guardia de seguridad, además de haber prestado de nuevo su voz para le bestia verde, y vemos a Bill Bixby brevemente en una pantalla de televisión. Stan Lee, el creador del personaje, hace su usual aparición en estas películas, y se lo ve tomando refresco de su refrigerador.

This film is manages to be a reboot, a retelling of the history of the famous green giant, which flees, to be constantly harassed by the commando forces directed by General Ross. The film pays tribute to the old television series in various forms, borrowed the theme song of it, Lou Ferrigno, who was the Hulk on television, has a small appearance as a security guard, in addition to having given his voice the green beast, and we see Bill Bixby briefly on a television screen. Stan Lee, creator of the character, makes his usual appearance in these films, and we see him taking a cold drink from his refrigerator.


El desarrollo de la historia es trepidante, a diferencia de la versión de Lee, en la que habían largos e incómodas secuencias. La acción fluye sin parar desde las favelas de Río de Janeiro, donde toma lugar una secuencia de persecución que corta el aliento, hasta culminar en un titánico encuentro por sobre los rascacielos de Nueva York. La actuación de Norton, como el atormentado Banner, es mucho más creíble en esta película, y brillan en sus respectivos papeles de “malos”, los habituales Hurt y Roth. Liv Tyler en su rol de Betty Ross tampoco desentona.

The development of the story is frantic, unlike the version of Lee, which had long and uncomfortable sequences. The action is flowing nonstop from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, where takes place a breathtaking chase sequence, culminating in a titanic encounter over the skyscrapers of New York. The performance of Norton, as the tormented Banner, is much more believable in this movie, and shine in their respective roles of "baddies", the usual Hurt and Roth. Liv Tyler in her role of Betty Ross is well done too.


Esta es claramente una de esas pocas cintas que es casi imprescindible apreciarlas en pantalla grande, para admirar los efectos especiales –visuales y sonoros- en todo su esplendor. Con esta historia la compañía Marvel se ha anotado dos éxitos en lo que va del verano estadounidense y además hay indicios en esta película que tal vez, pronto podamos apreciar una que incluya a todos los famosos personajes del grupo de superhéroes conocidos como los AVENGERS.

This is clearly one of those few films that is almost imperative to appreciate on the big screen, to admire the special effects -visual and audio- in all its glory. With this story the company Marvel has scored two successes so far on the American summer and also in this movie there are indications that perhaps soon we can appreciate one that includes all the famous characters of the group of superheroes known as the AVENGERS.


Antes del final sólo me resta dar una advertencia, no lleven a la misma a niños muy pequeños o muy impresionables, ya que la acción y el nivel de violencia en la misma es bastante intenso, no es algo que llevaría a ver a mi sobrino de 10 años. Ni qué decir que el fan boy que habita en mi ha salido del teatro con la satisfacción de haber visto por fin una película que le hiciera justicia a todo lo que antes sólo habíamos visto en las ahora clásicas historias de los comics. Nivel de expectación: 6/10. Nivel de satisfacción: 10/10.

Before the end only remains for me to give a warning, do not to bring to it to very young children or very impressionable, as the action and the level of violence in itself is quite intense, is not something that I’ll take to watch to my 10 years old nephew. Needless to say that the fan boy who lives inside me has left the cinema theater with the satisfaction of having finally seen a movie that do justice to everything that previously had been seen only in the now classic stories of the comics. Expectation Level: 6/10. Level of satisfaction: 10/10.

Juego de poder (Charlie Wilson's War)

“Charlie Wilson’s War”, el best seller de George Crile, adaptado al cine por Aaron Sorkin, dirigido por Mike Nichols e interpretado por Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts y Philip Seymour Hoffman, ha sido mi primera grata sorpresa del año, en lo que se refiere a cine de calidad.

"Charlie Wilson's War", the bestseller by George Crile, now a movie adapted by Aaron Sorkin, directed by Mike Nichols and performed by Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman, has been my first pleasant surprise of the year, in what which deals with quality cinema.

Confieso que cuando me enteré de la misma, no puse especial interés en la misma a pesar de estar protagonizada por tres reconocidos actores, es entonces que cuando me aprestaba a ver Indiana Jones por segunda vez, veo que en la otra sala están proyectando esta película, y para mi sorpresa me anoticio que el director de la misma es nada menos que Mike Nichols. Así las cosas, la elección del cambio no fue difícil de hacer, y debo decir además que fue una muy buena decisión.

I confess that when I heard of it, I was not particularly interested in the same despite being starred by three major actors, then when I was about to see Indiana Jones for the second time, I see that in the other room are projected this movie , And to my surprise I noticed that the director of the same is none other than Mike Nichols. So, the choice of change was not difficult to do, and I must say that was a very good decision.

La historia trata acerca de Charlie Wilson (Tom Hanks), un congresista tejano, quien toma casi sin quererlo un rol protagónico en la derrota del ejército ruso a manos de la resistencia afgana, y como consecuencia casi directa de ello la caída de la Unión Soviética y el fin de la Guerra Fría. En esta misión es ayudado por Joanne Herring (Julia Roberts), una millonaria y bien conectada socialite, y por Gust Avrakotos (Philip Seymour Hoffman) un espía bastante atípico.

The story is about Charlie Wilson (Tom Hanks), a Texas congressman, who almost inadvertently took a leading role in the defeat of the Russian army at the hands of the Afghan resistance, and almost directly as a result of this the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. In this mission is helped by Joanne Herring (Julia Roberts), a millionaire and well-connected socialite and Gust Avrakotos (Philip Seymour Hoffman) a spy quite atypical.

Una historia que se desarrolla a buen ritmo y que se las arregla para contarnos su misma en el lapso de la hora y media que dura este filme (aunque a mi me haya dado la impresión de haber durado mucho más). El guión magnifico de Aaron Sorkin, hace brillar los caracteres de Hanks y Hoffman, y la Roberts no desentona e incluso podemos apreciar lo bien conservada que está. Wilson en una visita a Pakistán toma contacto con la brutalidad de los soviéticos hacia el pueblo afgano y de ese modo se embarca en una cruzada personal para conseguir fondos para equipar a la resistencia afgana con moderno armamento, que logrará abatir el dominio aéreo de los soviéticos sobre Afganistán.

A story that develops at good pace and that manages to tell it in the span of the hour and a half that lasts this film (although I have given the impression to have lasted much longer). The screenplay by Aaron Sorkin is magnificent, makes the characters of Hanks and Hoffman shine, and Roberts is at their level and we can see how well preserved she is. Wilson on a visit to Pakistan makes contact with the brutality of the Soviets to the Afghan people and thus embarks on a personal crusade to raise funds to equip the Afghan resistance with modern weaponry, which achieved reduce the air dominance of the Soviets over Afghanistan.

Esta es una sátira política acerca de cómo realmente se maneja el poder en el Norte, y nos muestra además cómo la corta visión de sus políticos se las arregla para convertir un triunfo en lo que ha venido a ser un verdadero dolor de cabeza actual para los EE.UU. de hoy. El diálogo agudo entre los personajes principales, es algo que me ha gustado mucho, pero como siempre el que se roba la escena cada vez que aparece en ella es Hoffman.

This is a political satire about how the power is managed at the North, and shows us how well a bunch of short-sighted of their politicians manages to convert a victory in what has become a real headache for the current U.S. today. The sharp dialogue between the main characters, is something that I was very pleased, but as always, who steals the scene whenever he is appearing on the film is Hoffman.

Al parecer siempre es más fácil, tratar de responder a una amenaza inmediata, a través de fondos desviados subrepticiamente para la compra de material bélico para la resistencia afgana, (¡la suma llegó a mil millones de dólares!), que invertir siquiera una centésima parte de esa cifra en la reconstrucción de un país en ruinas, y ni siquiera en equipar escuelas, hospitales, u otros servicios básicos y elementales, y como todo esto se hizo en secreto, y tal como lo advierte el propio Wilson en la película, la nueva generación de Afganistán no se enterará nunca del papel que los EE.UU. desempeñaron en su lucha contra los soviéticos.

Apparently it is always easier, trying to respond to an immediate threat, through covertly diverted funds for the purchase of military equipment to the Afghan resistance, (the sum reached one billion dollars!), than to invest even one hundredth part of that quantity in rebuilding a country in ruins, and even equip schools, hospitals or other basic services, and as all this was done in secret, and as Wilson warns himself in film, the new generation of Afghanistan will never know the role that the U.S. has played in its fight against the Soviets.

Tal como lo remarca el personaje de Hoffman al final de la cinta, una vez que has dejado una bola rebotando, ésta no dejará de rebotar, sólo porque ya no le prestes atención, y el 11 de septiembre de 2001 éstas palabras encontraron su profética realización.

As it’s highlighted by the character of Hoffman at the end of the film, once you've left a bouncing ball, it doesn’t quit bouncing, only because you no longer pay attention to it, and the September 11, 2001 these words found their prophetic realization.

Una canción, dos versiones Vol. 3 (One Song, Two Versions Vol 3)

Hoy quiero aprovechar la oportunidad para compartir nuevamente otra canción que me gusta mucho y de la que hay dos versiones que son las que me gustan más. El gran compositor mexicano Álvaro Carrillo tuvo una inspiración genial y nos regaló la canción “Se te olvida”, también conocida como “La Mentira”.

Today I would like to take this opportunity to again share another song that I love and there are two versions of it that are what I like most. La primera versión que va a disfrutar y mi absoluta favorita de todas las versiones que hay de esta canción, viene de la magistral voz de Javier Solis, el más grande –a mi juicio- cantante mexicano.

¿Qué tienen en común Roswell, la bomba atómica, la era de McCarthy, y unos comandos soviéticos en suelo americano? Pues que de una y otra manera todos forman parte de la última aventura de Indiana Jones. Lucas y Spielberg se han demorado casi 20 años en traer de nuevo a la pantalla a uno de los héros más emblemáticos del cine de los últimos tiempos.

What Roswell, the atomic bomb, the McCarthy era, and some Soviet commands on American soil have in common? That in one way or other they all are part of the latest Indiana Jones adventure. Lucas and Spielberg have been delayed nearly 20 years to bring back to the screen at one of the most emblematic cinema heroes of recent times.


Esta vez Indy (Harrison Ford) es llevado a la fuerza junto a su amigo George McHale (Ray Winstone), a un depósito del US Army, donde están guardadas todas las cositas que han ido guardando a lo largo del tiempo, -incluida la famosa arca, de la primera película-. Los responsables son un grupo de comandos soviéticos encabezados por Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett), quien está detrás de los misteriosos restos del famoso accidente espacial de Roswell.

This time Indy (Harrison Ford) is put along with his friend George McHale (Ray Winstone), into a deposit of the U.S. Army, where are all the things that they saved over a long time, -including the famous ark, from the first film-. Those responsible are a group of Soviet command headed by Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett) who is behind the mysterious remains of the famous Roswell crash space.


Indiana logra escapar pero sin poder evitar la traición de su amigo o que Irina se salga por el momento con la suya y se lleve lo que vino a buscar. Luego se conocerá con un joven Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf), quien le solicita ayuda para su madre a quien tienen probablemente prisionera. Es así como se embarca junto con el joven rumbo a Sudamérica para descubrir el secreto de la Calavera de Cristal, así como el misterio de la mítica ciudad de El Dorado.

Indiana managed to escape but unable to prevent the betrayal of his friend or that Irina is leaving for the moment with what she came to seek. Para mí ha sido placentero volver a ver a Indiana en acción una vez más, a pesar de que obviamente la edad ya se nota en nuestro héroe, la película en sí tiene una gran sensación de nostalgia y reencuentro, ya que de varias maneras nos reconectamos con aventuras previas, así como atestiguamos el regreso de la heroína Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen).

For me it was pleasing to see Indiana in action again, although obviously that age it is noticed in our hero, the film itself has a great sense of nostalgia and reunion, because in many ways we reconnect with the previous adventures, and witnessed the return of heroin Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen).


Con mucha pena he oído y leído varias críticas de muchos fans de la serie, que alegan que la cinta es la peor de la serie. Las quejas se dirigen a desmenuzar sobre la credibilidad o no de varias de las escenas de acción de la película, así como a la –según ellos- falta de diálogos que maticen las escenas de acción. Otros se dedicaron a criticar la actuación de tal o cual actor, aunque todos –incluido yo- reconocemos la prestancia y fortaleza del rol de Harrison Ford.

With a lot of sorrow I have heard and read several criticisms of many fans of the series, which argue that it is the worst of the series. Complaints are directed to crumble on the credibility or otherwise of several of the action scenes in the movie, and -according to them-, the lack of dialogues that blends the action scenes. Others were devoted to criticizing the performance of this or that player, but everyone -including myself-recognizes the strength and majestic of Harrison Ford’s role.



Debo decir en defensa de la cinta que la misma, al igual que sus predecesoras, son cintas que homenajeaban a los viejos seriales de antaño, que usualmente eran episodios de diez a quince minutos, y que contaban historias a lo largo de diez o más episodios, en los que el héroe siempre parecía estar en peligro, y de los que siempre se salvaba a veces bajo circunstancias bastante increíbles. Siguiendo ese mismo molde todas las películas de Indiana Jones siguen el patrón de estilo que tanto le critican a la última. Posiblemente, la gente que anda tan enamorada con la trilogía, ha crecido y con ello también su necesidad de hallar lógica y coherencia en todo, incluido en este último film.

I must say in defence of the film that it, like its predecessors, are films that tribute to the old serials of yesteryear, which were usually episodes of ten to fifteen minutes, and having stories over ten or more episodes, in which the hero always seemed to be at risk, and that he always saved sometimes under circumstances quite incredible. Following the same road all the Indiana Jones movies follow the pattern of style that they criticize. Possibly, people who is so in love with the trilogy, has grown and hence, their need to find logic and consistency throughout, including in the last film.


Sólo para hacer memoria, Indy encima de un submarino, mientras este se sumerge, y luego aparece en la isla de destino del mismo (Raiders of The Lost Ark), un paseo accidentado en un carrito de mina, que no lo iguala la mejor montaña rusa del mundo (Temple Of Doom), un cruzado viviendo en una cueva por mil años (The Last Cruzade), y podría seguir desmenuzando todas y cada una de las escenas tan implausibles, como las que le critican a la última. Para ver este tipo de films, debes dejar que aflore tu niño interior, dejar el lado del cerebro que domina la lógica y coherencia apagado o adormecido, y disfrutar del caramelo visual que es esta cinta.

Just to make memory, Indy over a submarine, while it plunges, and then appears on the island destination of the same (Raiders of the Lost Ark), a bumpy ride in a cart of mine, that has no match in the best rollercoaster (Temple Of Doom), a crusader living in a cave for a thousand years (The Last Crusade), and I could continue shredding each and every one of the scenes as implausible, such as those that the alleged fans criticize to the last film. To see this kind of films, you should let your inner child emerge, leaving the side of the brain which dominates the logic and consistency off or asleep, and enjoy the visual candy that is this film.



Como siempre una vez más brilla la música de John Williams, quien ha jugado un papel muy importante en definir no solo el tono de los filmes, sino en implantar indeleblemente el sonido –y la imagen- de la aventura en nuestras mentes, junto con el nombre de Indiana Jones. Nivel de expectativa: 10/10. Nivel de satisfacción: 10/10

As always, once again shines the music of John Williams, who has played a major role in defining not only the tone of the films, but to establish indelibly the sound -and the image- of adventure in our minds, along with Indiana Jones name. Expectation level: 10/10. Satisfaction level: 10/10.
